Hmmm, i would say a feature. Look at your code after pass 2 (e.g. with
-v9 flag).

The only solution is to put language specifier into <subject>, like
  <subject "<d: Über uns>">
  <subject "<d: Über uns><e: About us>">
  ><e: ...>
